Challenge #6: Share your favourite piece of original canon.

Not exactly an answer to the prompt, but I'm using this because this was already on my mind and I'm too lazy to come up with something else: My partner asked me recently if I could think of video games that have a really good/gripping/immersive opening sequence. The one that came to mind most immediately is Final Fantasy VI's opening sequence:

Admittedly, I get a bit tired of this opening sequence because I've seen it like a dozen times (because I keep on starting a new playthrough of FFVI in the vain hope that this time I'll finish the whole game for REAL). But my personal fatigue aside, this opening leaps to mind because it's got a very distinctive vibe that sticks with you long after you see it for the first time.

I think a big part of it is the music -- very dramatic, operatic and ominous. The dialogue is simple but it establishes that you're starting off playing the game as the Bad Guys who do not believe they are bad. And the bleak scenery of the storm clouds and Narshe, combined with the music, effectively establishes this feeling of unease and humanity headed toward a calamity. And then as the staff credits roll, you just see the three mechas marching silently and facelessly through snow and the music is longing and wistful as the snow comes down. Who is this woman robbed of thought? What does she see, think, feel?

(I also think Final Fantasy VII's "bombing mission" opening is also really effective -- throws you into the action, sets up the driving conflict between Barret/Avalanche and Shinra, and also introduces Cloud's enigmatic persona. But I'm not as much of an expert on FFVII!)

Challenge #7: In your own space, create a list of at least three things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a wishlist of sorts.

Well, originally I was going to use this to plug my [community profile] fandomtrees tree, but then the trees revealed, so... too late to plug. orz BUT I didn't get any DS9 icons, which I was really hoping for, so hey, a good reason to plug it anyway (I did get a really nice haul of animation and autumn-themed icons, though!). Also, since I don't think I'll be getting Quodo icons in Quodo Mini-fest this year, either (and I didn't include Quodo icons in my Fandom Trees sign-up because I thought I would have a decent chance of getting them for Quodo Mini-fest instead; basically, my DS9 icon-requesting was a bit of a flop this year XD), I could use some of those too. So:

1) DS9 icons (including Quodo icons) -- including recs for DS9 icons that have already been made! Basically, running Quodo in Every Episode (a DS9 rewatch project) has made me realize how few DS9 icons I have to pick from. u_u Here are the original requests if you're interested:
https://fandomtrees.dreamwidth.org/180807.html
https://archiveofourown.org/collections/quodo_minifest5/requests

2) I'm also still a pinch hit in [community profile] fffx. A 5-10k fanwork is WAY too much to ask for, but I would appreciate sharing the pinch hit with people in those fandoms, or just talking with me about the requests, like, "hey, I'd also like to see a fic/comic for [prompt]" or "this prompt sounds interesting -- maybe it would work with element X or Y" or "I never thought about this pairing before" or whatever. Or if you feel up to it, a bite-sized treat for any of the requested characters/ships would be very appreciated! (I'll also probably be posting a fandom promo or two tomorrow to help with getting picked up here.)

3) Prompts for my fandoms/ships for [community profile] threesentenceficathon! I'd love to write some bite-sized ficlets but I don't think there's been any prompts for my fandoms (or if there has, it's a bit of a needle-in-a-haystack situation finding them -- prompt recs ALSO very much appreciated as a way of granting this wish), and any/any prompts don't really inspire me (it's possible they might work if someone said, "Hey, when I saw this prompt it made me think of these characters in particular," though? IDK). So if you have some ideas for my fandoms, I'd love to be linked them!

Thank you for sharing the video!

I had no idea that there was a whole fanfic fest for Quark/Odo!

Oh, I love the opening to FFVI! Interestingly enough, with the Pixel Remaster they got rid of the opening credits sequence in it...which is a choice, but it is still such an impactful sequence given how it sets up the story-line. :) I also do love the "bombing mission" from FFVII too for similar reasoning! :D

Actually, the closest recent FF game I can think of with a "grab you" opening like those two would probably be FFXVI given how it sets up the plot premise so succinctly. It has certainly been awhile! XD

Your wishlist is very nice! I wish I was more active in writing fanworks or creating icons to help out more, but hopefully you will be in for some pleasant surprises in terms of this wishlist later on! ♥
