Ooh that's an interesting one! I was going to say, when trying to come up with some more examples of Schrodinger dead characters, I FELT there should have been a few older canons with gay characters that pulled a "bury your gays" move back in the 80s/90s/etc., and then when they were being remade or rebooted, the maker decided to avoid falling into that trope by deciding to keep the gay person alive this time. But I couldn't think of any examples! But then with The Last of Us TV show, it's the opposite -- a reverse bury-your-gays! I guess the consolation is that Bill in the show had a happier life than game!Bill did. It's a bit weird that I can't think of any examples going in the other direction, though, where the gay character actually gets to live.
